Michael Jackson was famous and popular in MOST of the countries of the world. The kind of universal and mass appeal he had could only be dreamed of by people like Elvis Presley and the Beatles. It’s so shallow for people to forget that MJ was an INTERNATIONAL star, not just an American star.

In the Guiness Book of Records as the most successful entertainer of all time. He has won more awards than any other artist. He is globally loved and considered King. He has touched millions of people with his generousity and humanitarian efforts. Most importantly, he was a genius entertainer, composing, writing, singing, dancing, and performing like no one else could. He has influenced every pop star that has come after him. When Michael Jackson went into his “frenzy state” on stage, he took everyone with him. It was the ultimate experience! LOng Live the King!

Firstly I am a true lover of all music, and a huge MJ fan, but I am also a realist when it comes down to the facts, and I would have to say that MJ overshadows Elvis in almost all aspects of music credibility.
    Let’s look at the facts.
Let’s first remember that Elvis came out at a time when America never had a true Caucasian rock and roll singer, as all other Rock n Roll artist at that time were black. So all the white teens that were craving to listen to rock and roll didn’t, or couldn’t because they were afraid of being ridiculed. Remember America was still a very racist country in the 50′s and 60′s, and prior musician artists such as Chuck Berry and Little Richard, who were both pioneers of Rock n Roll music couldn’t get their music played on commercial radio stations because they were black. Granted, Elvis did help pave the way for America to start embracing the talents of these and many other black artists, but it was these other artists that pioneered the music that Elvis sang. It was only when at last Elvis came out, that America slowly started to appreciate and embrace Rock n roll music. Elvis was a great singer with a brilliant voice, but had the hard work done for him, as writers all over the world scrambled to get their music turned into hits. Elvis had been credited as a co-writer of many songs thanks to the heavy handed tactics of Colonel Parker, who insisted he be credited otherwise their songs would not be sung by him. All in all Elvis did have an easy ride into his pedestal as the ‘King of Rock n Roll’, a claim that should have really included Chuck Berry, and Little Richard as well, which begs the question, had Elvis been another black man, would we even be talking about him now?
Michael Jackson, on the other hand was the major pioneer of music television, and wrote, produced and arranged the vast majority of his music, he is even one of the very rare artists to have his name inducted into rock n roll music’s Hall of Fame twice, (once as a member of the Jackson Five/ Jacksons, and the other o his own). He is also one of the few artists inducted into the songwriters Hall of Fame. He was also far more popular on a global scale and broke far more records in the music industry than Elvis did. Here are just a few.

First artist to have 4 top ten hits from one Album, with Off the Wall.
Only artist to have seven top ten hits from one album with Thriller
Only artist to have five number one songs from one album with Bad.
Only artist to have seven top ten hits from one album with Dangerous.

However to compare who was bigger at their time is unfair, as Michael had the technology of music video behind him, and I guess MJ’s voice flails when compared to Elvis. But as a musician, entertainer, and artist, Elvis shouldn’t even be mentioned in the same breath as Michael Jackson.

American Music awards artist of the century (last hundred years), He beat out Elvis and the Beatles.

World Music awards (IFPI) He won the artist of the millennium (last thousand years) he beat out Elvis and Beatles.

Guinness book of world records gave the award of the most successful entertainer of all time based on his records and achievements. They didn’t give it to Elvis or Beatles.

Micheal made the robot and moonwalk world famous dances. He changed music videos from a promotional tool to an art form with the release of thriller.

He Touched people of every race color and religion like no other artiste before or after. Elvis and the Beatles had touched people but it was most in north America and the UK but Micheal appeal was worldwide.

Micheal was not a president like Ronald Reagan or royalty like princess Diana but the world stopped to view his funeral just like it did for them a worldwide audience of 3.2 billion via TV and online streaming.

    10 albums 750 miions copies.

another 30 million since he died.

Michael was the greatest dancer as described by Fred Astaire.
    Michael changed music video.
Michael changed fashion and influenced alot of leading designers.
Michael was the most charitable person ever.
Michael played three instuments. Elvis one.
Michael has the best selling album ever. Nothing of Elvis’s comes close. In fact add the bestselling beatles album and the best selling Elvis album and they don’t get close to Thriller.
Michael was a WORLD star. Everywhere other than America, people can’t stand Elvis.
Michael Jackson put black people in white peoples living rooms!!

Michael Jackson has to be the most talented person ever. Elvis was manufactured, he could have quite easily been some other old johnny off the street.

When both people were in their prime, Michael Jackson was soooo much better looking. More talented and won more awards than anyone.

Did Elvis write his own music???

One more thing, I really hate it when people say Elvis had more number one singles. Correction, Michael was a WORLDWIDE star and wrote music for different cultures etc. His songs reached number one around the world, not solely in america and therefore had over 40 number one singles (all different tracks and counting each one once as some went to number one in countries in different years) which blows Elvis away. Outside of america Elvis is not that popular.

MJ hands down. A talent that will never be competed with!!!!

No disrespect to MJ fans, I love his music as well, honestly Elvis was more of a true artist. One bit of evidence supporting this would be that Elvis could improvise and collaborate with other artists, on film, in the studio, and on stage, for jackson everything had to be controlled and contrived to give the appearance he was a genuine artist. just my two cents

In Elvis day, you had to sell 1 million copies for a single, and 500 thousand for an album to be certified gold. Now a days, you only have to sell 500 thousand singles and 250,000 albums to be certified gold. That’s what makes the sales records of Elvis even more impressive.

    WANT TO KNOW MORE?
Elvis is an icon. Let’s look at how people become icons and how you too could end up immortalised in history! An important first step is to capture a moment or happening in history. Elvis is a great example – he didn’t invent rock ‘n’ roll, but his charisma, stage presence, and great voice brought it to a whole new audience. Elvis also captured a new spirit of rebellion among America’s youth in the 1950s. The way Elvis used to gyrate his hips caused controversy back then, but icons are often controversial.

In 1970 there were 250 professional Elvis impersonators. Today there are estimated to be 35,000. If this trend continues at the same rate there will be 700 million Elvis impersonators by 2060 – that’s double the population of the USA and Canada combined.

    Most Valuable Hair

The most valuable hair clippings sold at auction are a mass of dark black cuttings from the head of Elvis Presley. The King’s curls were sold by his personal barber, Homer “Gill” Gilleland, for $115,120 (£72,791), buyer’s premium included, to an anonymous buyer during an online auction held by MastroNet Inc., Oak Brook, Illinois, USA, on November 15, 2002. The lock of hair is approximately 8 cm (3 in) in diameter and is accompanied by letters of authenticity from Tom Morgan Jr. (detailing their history), John W Heath (the world’s foremost Elvis memorabilia expert) and John Reznikoff of University Archives (the world’s most respected authority in the field of hair collecting).

Elvis have sold more or less 2.5 billion records.
Michael Jackson have sold a little bit more than 750 million.
So Elvis has sold more than thrice as much records as Michael Jackson.
Besides, when Elvis first started out in the 50′s, the only markets they had to sell was western Europe and North America (+ Australia), and they did not have the same purchasing power as the 80′s and 90′s.
AND in the 50′s, the total population in the world was almost 3 billion people. Now its almost 7 billion and almost the whole world has a CD- player.
So, there is really a disadvantage for elvis in this scenario.
Elvis was a humble person. He does not like to be called a KING for he said that he was only a singer. Michael demanded to be called “King of Pop” otherwise he would not allowed his music video[ Black or White] to be played on air in an mtv.

Billboard ranks Elvis as the #1 artist of the 50’s; #2 in the 60’s; and #11 in the 70’s — but overall he is ranked #1. Michael Jackson is ranked overall as the #4 artist. ELVIS was the highest paid actor in the 60’s and the top earning Las Vegas act of the 70’s. Elvis Presley and his music touched people far greater and deeper than anyone in history which is why he has the most selling records in history[2.5 BILLION], 1/4[ more than 1 billion people] of planet earth population watched him live [ALOHA FROM HAWAII CONCERT], more than half million visiting graceland to this day, 70,000 people getting together 30 years after his death. This is what makes him the greatest entertainer in history. Elvis changed music forever and made the biggest impact..so when lennon says there was nothing before ELVIS, thats what he means. That Elvis is the best there is, was and ever will be.

This latest tour will include engagements in England, Ireland, Scotland, Holland, and other European countries. Elvis was not popular outside
america is A BIG JOKE. Those saying Elvis was an american icon only don’t know what they r talking about. Maybe you only knew michael jackson and not Elvis. I tell you people, please explore Elvis and you will all know how big he really was. I’ll posted a lot of stuff here before this one proving to you all that Elvis is not an american icon only but also a global icon. He become a global icon w/o touring outside of america like michael did but he was able to touched other people lives and hearts thru his music, movies, charisma, looks, humility, voice, etc. And thats made it more impressive to me.

    International Acclaim
Elvis Presley’s trophy room at Graceland is filled with gold and platinum records and awards of all kinds from around the world. Some of the countries represented are: Norway, Yugoslavia, Japan, Australia, South Africa, England, Sweden, Germany, France, Canada, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Another proof that Elvis was not only known in the USA.

    ELVIS STAMP
In 1992, the U.S. Postal Service announced that Elvis’ image would be used for a commemorative postage stamp. The Postal Service narrowed the artwork choices down to two images – one of Elvis in the 1950’s as a sizzling young rocker, and one of him as a still-svelte concert superstar in his 1973 Aloha from Hawaii special. In an unprecedented move, the USPS put the decision to the American people and distributed ballots coast to coast. Over 1.2 million votes were cast, and the image of the young rocker won. The stamp was released on January 8, 1993, with extravagant first day of issue ceremonies at Graceland. The Elvis stamp is the most widely publicized stamp issue in the history of the U.S. Postal Service, and it is the top selling commemorative postage stamp of all time. The USPS printed 500 million of them, three times the usual print run for a commemorative stamp. Several countries outside the USA also have issued Elvis stamps over the years.
Again, another tribute to Elvis. Not many people is given this tribute.

“A Presley picture is the only sure thing in Hollywood.”
    Hal Wallis
Producer of nine of Elvis’ films.
[Can that be said of michael jackson?]

“There is something magical about watching a man who has lost himself find his way back home…He sang with the kind of power people no longer expect from rock ‘n’ roll singers.”
    John Landau
Review of Elvis, (1968 TV Special).

“It was the finest music of his life. If ever there was music that bleeds, this was it.”
    Greil Marcus
From his book, Mystery Train, remembering the 1968 TV Special.

“There are several unbelievable things about Elvis, but the most incredible is his staying power in a world where meteoric careers fade like shooting stars.”
    Newsweek, August 11, 1969
Review of Elvis’ Las Vegas engagement.

“…a style and panache that come close to pure magic. Lithe, raunchy, the sweat pouring down his face, he now moves with the precision of an athlete, the grace of a dancer…flamboyant and flashy, sexy and self-mocking, he works with the instincts of a genius to give poetry to the basic rock performance.”
    W.A. Harbinson
From his 1975 book, The Illustrated Elvis. A passage reflecting upon Elvis’ 1969 Vegas engagement.

“So what it boils down to was Elvis produced his own records. He came to the session, picked the songs, and if something in the arrangement was changed, he was the one to change it. Everything was worked out spontaneously. Nothing was really rehearsed. Many of the important decisions normally made previous to a recording session were made during the session. What it was was a look to the future. Today everybody makes records this way. Back then Elvis was the only one. He was the forerunner of everything that’s record production these days. Consciously or unconsciously, everyone imitated him. People started doing what Elvis did.”
    Bones Howe
    Recording Engineer
As quoted in Jerry Hopkins’ 1971 book, Elvis, A Biography.

“A lot of people have accused Elvis of stealing the black man’s music, when in fact, almost every black solo entertainer copied his stage mannerisms from Elvis. ”Jackie Wilson
[This quote disproved the claim by other people that elvis was a stealer of black man's music, and this is coming from a black man himself]

“You have no idea how great he is, really you don’t. You have no comprehension – it’s absolutely impossible. I can’t tell you why he’s so great, but he is. He’s sensational.”
    Phil Spector

“Elvis is the greatest cultural force in the twentieth century. He introduced the beat to everything, music, language, clothes, it’s a whole new social revolution – the 60’s comes from it.”
    Leonard Bernstein, 1960s.

“There have been many accolades uttered about Elvis’ talent and performances through the years, all of which I agree with wholeheartedly. I shall miss him dearly as a friend. He was a warm, considerate and generous man.”
    Frank Sinatra, 1977

“Elvis Presley’s death deprives our country of a part of itself. He was unique, irreplaceable. More than twenty years ago, he burst upon the scene with an impact that was unprecedented and will probably never be equaled. His music and his personality, fusing the styles of white country and black rhythm and blues, permanently changed the face of American popular culture. His following was immense. And he was a symbol to people the world over of the vitality, rebelliousness and good humor of this country.”
President Jimmy Carter, 1977. His official statement following Elvis’ death.

“Elvis had an influence on everybody with his musical approach. He broke the ice for all of us.”
    Al Green

“…At Sun Studio in Memphis Elvis Presley called to life what would soon be known as rock and roll with a voice that bore strains of the Grand Ole Opry and Beale Street, of country and the blues. At that moment, he ensured – instinctively, unknowingly – that pop music would never again be as simple as black and white.”
    David Fricke Rolling Stone, 1986

“He was an instinctive actor…He was quite bright…he was very intelligent…He was not a punk. He was very elegant, sedate, and refined, and sophisticated.”
Walter Matthau, who co-starred with Elvis in King Creole (1958). From a 1987 interview.

“There have been a lotta tough guys. There have been pretenders. And there have been contenders. But there is only one king.”
    Bruce Springsteen

“…it was like he came along and whispered some dream in everybody’s ear, and somehow we all dreamed it.”
    Bruce Springsteen

“When I first heard Elvis’ voice I just knew that I wasn’t going to work for anybody; and nobody was going to be my boss…Hearing him for the first time was like busting out of jail.”
    Bob Dylan

“A lot has been written and said about why he was so great, but I think the best way to appreciate his greatness is just to go back and play some of the old records…Time has a way of being very unkind to old records, but Elvis’ keep getting better and better.”
    Huey Lewis

“Elvis was the king. No doubt about it. People like myself, Mick Jagger and all the others only followed in his footsteps. ”Rod Stewart
[Michael jackson included, what he has done in his career was already done by ELVIS PRESLEY][Put it another way, before michael had done anything ELVIS already done everything]

“He was a unique artist – an original in an area of imitators.”
    Mick Jagger

    “Before Elvis, there was nothing.”
    John Lennon

“This boy had everything. He had the looks, the moves, the manager, and the talent. And he didn’t look like Mr. Ed like a lot of the rest of us did. In the way he looked, way he talked, way he acted – he really was different.”
    Carl Perkins

“I wasn’t just a fan, I was his brother. He said I was good and I said he was good; we never argued about that. Elvis was a hard worker, dedicated, and God loved him. Last time I saw him was at Graceland. We sang Old Blind Barnabus together, a gospel song. I love him and hope to see him in heaven. There’ll never be another like that soul brother.
    James Brown

“He was the firstest with the mostest.”
    Roy Orbison

“That’s my idol, Elvis Presley. If you went to my house, you’d see pictures all over of Elvis. He’s just the greatest entertainer that ever lived. And I think it’s because he had such presence. When Elvis walked into a room, Elvis Presley was in the f***ing room. I don’t give a f*** who was in the room with him, Bogart, Marilyn Monroe.”
    ”Eddie Murphy
[Some people say that elvis was a rascist but why he was loved by eddie murphy, muhammad ali, james brown, jackie wilson,bb king
    to name a few?]

“He was ahead of his time because he had such deep feelings. He had the privilege of deep feelings because he was deeply loved by his mother, Gladys. He was able to appreciate profound beauty in sounds. And he started a musical revolution. They say all revolutions start from love.”
    Imelda Marcos

“It’s rare when an artist’s talent can touch an entire generation of people. It’s even rarer when that same influence affects several generations. Elvis made an imprint on the world of pop music unequaled by any other single performer.”
    Dick Clark

“Elvis Presley was an explorer of vast new landscapes of dream and illusion. He was a man who refused to be told that the best of his dreams would not come true, who refused to be defined by anyone else’s conceptions. This is the goal of democracy, the journey on which every prospective American hero sets out. That Elvis made so much of the journey on his own is reason enough to remember him with the honor and love we reserve for the bravest among us. Such men made the only maps we can trust.”
    Dave Marsh
    From his book, Elvis.

“It’s always been my dream to come to Madison Square Garden and be the warm-up act for Elvis.”
    Senator Al Gore
Accepting the nomination for vice president at the 1992 Democratic Convention & prior to Bill Clinton’s (aka “Elvis” by his security staff) acceptance of the presidential nomination.

“You know, Bush is always comparing me to Elvis in sort of unflattering ways. I don’t think Bush would have liked Elvis very much, and that’s just another thing that’s wrong with him.”
    Bill Clinton
    During the 1992 presidential campaign.

“He had total love in his eyes when he performed. He was the total androgenous beauty. I would practice Elvis in front of the mirror when I was twelve or thirteen years old.”
    k.d. lang

“I’m sitting in the drive-through and I’ve got my three girls in the back and this station comes on and it’s playing “Jailhouse Rock,” the original version, and my girls are jumping up and down, going nuts. I’m looking around at them and they’ve heard Dad’s music all the time and I don’t see that out of them.”
    Garth Brooks

“Ask anyone. If it hadn’t been for Elvis, I don’t know where popular music would be. He was the one that started it all off, and he was definitely the start of it for me.”
    Elton John

“It was Elvis that got me interested in music. I’ve been an Elvis fan since I was a kid.”
    Elton John

“The first concert I attended was an Elvis concert when I was eleven. Even at that age he made me realize the tremendous effect a performer could have on an audience.”
    Cher

“Elvis was a giant and influenced everyone in the business.”
    Isaac Hayes

“I learned music listening to Elvis’ records. His measurable effect on culture and music was even greater in England than in the States.”
    Mick Fleetwood

“I remember Elvis as a young man hanging around the Sun studios. Even then, I knew this kid had a tremendous talent. He was a dynamic young boy. His phraseology, his way of looking at a song, was as unique as Sinatra’s. I was a tremendous fan, and had Elvis lived, there would have been no end to his inventiveness.”
    B.B. King

“I don’t think there is a musician today that hasn’t been affected by Elvis’ music. His definitive years – 1954-57 – can only be described as rock’s cornerstone. He was the original cool.”
    Brian Setzer

Some of the people who admired and respect ELVIS PRESLEY. They are white and black people.

Bill Wolfer clearly said Jacko can never play any instrument!!!!!!
More recently William James Adam Jr. who worked in the studio with Jacko in 2006 said exactly the same thing- Michael cannot play any instruments at all.
According to Wolfer’s own words, Jackson did not play any instruments himself…
Can anyone of the people in the left side give a link in w/c you can prove that michael can play an instrument? Elvis can play guitar and piano. Watch Elvis’ 1968 comeback special and his playing an electric guitar there and his live rendition of unchained melody while playing a piano. Some people in the left side are liars. Stating that michael can play 3 instruments while elvis can play only one. Ha ha ha!!! Show us the proof/s that michael can play 3 instruments.

Michael Jackson Put ‘Curse’ on Spielberg-Magazine
    Reuters ^
Posted on Mon Mar 03 2003 22:54:03 GMT-0700 (US Mountain Standard Time) by per loin

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Embattled pop star Michael Jackson wears a prosthetic nose and once paid $150,000 for a “voodoo curse” to kill director Steven Spielberg despite being deep in debt, Vanity Fair magazine reported on Monday.

Vanity Fair, in an article for its March 11 edition, also reports that Jackson bleaches his skin white because [he does not like being black]. The 44-year-old singer sometimes [refers to black people as "spabooks,"] the magazine said

Jackson’s manager did not immediately return phone calls and a faxed request for comment on the article. Jackson’s London publicist could not be reached for comment.

The onetime King of Pop has been dogged by controversy for months, first over his odd appearance in a California courtroom last November. That same month, Jackson stunned fans in Berlin by briefly [dangling his young son from a hotel balcony.]

And in February a British television documentary that aired to blockbuster ratings both in England and the United States caused a stir when [Jackson told his interviewer that he slept in the same room, and sometimes the same bed, as young boys.]

Vanity Fair reported in the article that in 2000 Jackson attended a voodoo ritual in Switzerland where a witch doctor promised that Spielberg, music mogul David Geffen and 23 other people on the entertainer’s list of enemies would die.

Jackson, who underwent a “blood bath” as part of the ritual, then ordered his former business adviser Myung-Ho Lee to wire $150,000 to a bank in Mali for a voodoo chief named Baba, who sacrificed 42 cows for the ceremony, the magazine reported.

Vanity Fair reported that Jackson wears a page-boy wig and a prosthesis that serves as the tip of his nose. The magazine interviewed a source close to Jackson who said that, without the device Jackson resembles a mummy with two nostril holes.

According to the magazine, Jackson’s extravagant lifestyle and declining record sales have left him $240 million in debt.

The article, which relies in part on court filings in a $12 million lawsuit against Jackson by Lee, said that since the mid-1990s the reclusive entertainer has relied on a series of multimillion-dollar loans to cover his expenses.

In addition to the lawsuit by Lee, Jackson is also enmeshed in a $21 million court battle with German concert promoter Marcel Avram over canceled Millennium concerts and has been sued by Sotheby’s auction house for $1.6 million.

The magazine reported that Jackson must pay off the principal on a $200 million loan within a few years, which will be nearly impossible unless he sells his most valuable asset, the Beatles song catalog. He owns only half of the catalog while Sony Corp. owns the other half in an arrangement that might make selling his share difficult, Vanity Fair reported.

Jackson has also run up nearly $4 million per year in expenses from his Neverland Valley ranch in central California, where in April 2001 his amusement park equipment was nearly repossessed for late payments, the magazine said.

THIS IS YOUR IDOL MICHAEL JACKSON. That was he is. And you people at the left side saying that Elvis is only an ant compared to michael. Ha ha ha!!!

Tax records in the US and UK showed Jacko’s HEAL THE WORLD Foundation and charity Earth Care FAILED to make ANY charitable donations. Court records from 2000 also revealed that
Jackson was also CHARGED for two charity concerts he put on in 1999 in Seoul and Munich as well as grabbing a $1 million co-executive-producer fee.

===MICHAEL JACKSON TAKES CASH FOR AUTOGRAPHS===
(Rebus/Times)=== Cash-strapped Michael Jackson is making his Japanese fans pay £3500 for an autograph and 30 seconds in his company.
Billed the “VIP” party, some columnists have said it is nothing but a cynical ploy from Jacko to scam his fans for large amounts of money in as short a time as possible.
Jackson, 48, is not obligated to perform at either event, and promoters would not say how much he would be paid.

    ===JACKO INSULTS FANS IN JAPAN===
(AP) MARCH 8 2007- Fallen Pop superstar Michael Jackson angered fans in Japan this week by charging them money for autographs.
At the VIP party, guests paying $3,500 will get to mingle with Jackson and spend 30 seconds to one minute each of exclusive face time with him.
Jackson futher upset the fans by refusing to perform for them.

More will come if you people on the leftside don’t agree that ELVIS is bigger than michael in terms of contribution in music, the magnetism, the magnitude that ELVIS created and his influence and popularity.

According to Steve Brown’s book, Scandalous Freedom: The Radical Nature of the Gospel, Elvis gave a concert and, at its conclusion, a woman came forward with a crown restling on a plush pillow. She lifted the crown to Elvis and shouted, “You’re the King!” “No, honey,” he said, “I’m not the King. Christ is the King. I’m just a singer.”

This is the true idol,[ELVIS PRESLEY] very humble unlike michael who was a self proclaimed king of pop.
